"there is no better than adversity. every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time." malcolm x keeping your energies buzzing / out of the dark and into the light fit to think, fit for business / creating freedom how it all began... as a child, i don't recall times of trouble, even though early on we fled from a war in the mediterranean, re-locating with nothing except what we had in our suitcases, not once but twiceuntil my mother went back into that war-zone to rescue what could be salvaged so that we could re-start our lives again with our belongingsthis time in the uk. my parents worked hard and did their best from that point on to provide a 'normal' life for my brother and me - a life with values and cheer that appeared to provide plenty - a protected and sheltered life. and so i grew up feeling loved and secure; yet despite that an underlying feeling of guilt had developedfrom somewhere. it wasn't until much later, after travelling and settling abroad by myself, experiencing life outside of the 'protective zone' that i began to have, as all people do, different scenarios and reality checks. exposed to life with drugs and alcohol - though never understanding it or partaking myself - it nevertheless took its toll. always the 'understanding one', i naively thought i could fix things and for a while, once married and back in the uk with children, life seemed like it was finally on the right track.until the vicious cycle would start again. horrible scenarios i won't go into here - suffice it to say, i could probably write a good 'miniseries' for the tv that would keep keen soap-opera watchers in great entertainment! i began to take an interest in alternative and complementary health solutions when my son's health, at the age of 4 had turned for the worse with asthma and eczema and conventional medicine was just dealing with his symptoms in emergency situations. extending my curiosity and research to study, i received a diploma in nutrition from the school of natural health sciences, (affiliated with the national college of holistic medicine) in 2004. reiki became an extension to my holistic complementary health solutions and in march 2006 i further qualified in bio-energetics, an amalgamation of kinesiology and eft. i was so happy to be making a difference in people's lives - treating people who mostly came from a situation similar to me, in that they had tried conventional ways to no avail or people who were already genuinely interested in the holistic approach and wanted therapy of sorts. may of 2008 i decided to complete my 'circle' of health practices with a results and master practitioner course in nlp, neurological behaviour re-patterning and related coaching practices. i had the idea to approach the corporate world with 'turn-key' health and wellness workshops in the workplacenot aware that the financial crash was on the doorstep! by this time, i had not only gained qualifications and self-development to help others but i finally learned to apply this all to my own lifethat no matter how much i wanted to 'fix' things for my partner and the family, it was a two-way job and me wanting 'the best' for him was not enough if he didn't want it for himself. our common-sense often tells us this already but generally it doesn't stop us convincing ourselves that 'this time, we can fix the problem'. each of us can only see life through our own perspective and beliefs and move forward individually, only when we have sufficient desire and are ready for it. so with separation and eventually divorce, life brought new turmoil, heartache, challengesnew learning curves. nothing new for many of us these days! i was however, determined to make it work - now a single parent, running my own business, focused on healing with the best intentions of wanting to make a difference to others - wanting to help them, if not to avoid these types of circumstances, then to teach them how to come out the other side 'shining'. so what else? well, best intentions are best intentions and sometimes you end up getting 'caught' again and againnot necessarily in the same situation but perhaps something similar. unless you practice over and over and really apply what you have learned on a consistent basisenough that it becomes an 'unbreakable' habit, you slip, you slide.and sometimes you find yourself in the s***t again, thinking "what have i done to deserve this, this time?" i took a break from being self-employed in 2010 to do what had to be done - have a consistent income, to provide for the roof over my head and contribute for my children. i tried different things, gained new skills, learned that i didn't really like being an employee and ended up being bullied - not once but twice! so what was that all about? in an example of what is so typical of today's working environments, my self-worth was back at an all-time low.not feeling good enoughundervalued, having symptoms of anxiety, depression, allowing myself to be treated in a way that was unacceptable.hellodid this have a certain 'ring' about it? did i not come out of a marriage that made me feel like that? it was well and truly time to get to the bottom of this and the only way i could do it was to get the stress counselling, energy healing and life-coaching for myself to transform my life, as i used to for others. through this help and my own seeking for spiritual health, i can honestly say that my adversitiesespecially the most recent ones, have helped me to reach a place of freedom and peace within myself that i've never known before and to top this, they have brought out a creativity in me that i never knew existed to this levelin the form of art and poetry! i continue to dedicate my life with my passion of wanting to help others, to those who want to be helped, so that they too can feel re-energized, balanced, more connected with themselves, grateful for where they are, for the abundance of life itself and for knowing that with the right help and guidance, they don't have to go it alone. last year i restarted holding health and wellness workshops in the workplace again called 'fit to think, fit for business' and programmes for individuals either on a one-to-one basis or for groups, called ' keeping your energies buzzing' . the feedback has been phenomenal and i am so grateful for it. most recently, i have designed a programme called 'out of the dark and into light' for those who have been stuck in toxic relationships (whether work related or personal), who are looking for transformation into vibrant health, empowerment and a feeling of freedom and since my own experiences have led me to artistic creativity, i wanted to pass this opportunity on to others with a series of workshops called 'creating freedom' that incorporate art to music, meditation and related processes, helping them to release their emotions in creative expression, improve their self-esteem and confidence and bring an element of fun into working through and out of their life of circumstance! with an early career in teaching young children; a corporate cv of sales and marketing, account management and lastly, project coordination in executive educationplus my studies and qualifications in the health and wellness sector as well as my life experiences, i believe that what i bring to the table is a varied and rich collection of resources, together with adaptability, enthusiasm, passion, an innovative approach and professionalism. i finish my story with my most recent poem: out of adversity i looked within, i looked around i took a breath, so deep that it found the place in which there was some peace for me to see an impression of increase. how could this pain, this trouble and fear lead to a growth in strength to show clear this was necessary for me to evolve into the person of greater resolve.
